Please introduce yourself and why you think it’s important to engage learners?
I am a trainer in sustainable agriculture and will conduct an international face to face training in SriLanka in August. I want to include long distance learning activities as a preparation for the participants. But iam not sure how motivated the course participants are to invest time before the actual training (they have their busy daily jobs and not continues access to the web) What activities can I do to enhance participation, kind of low threshold activities. warm regards, Willem
Multimedia student here…. I was once asked by the programs advisory board of my program (that I also sit on) how to motivate and engage the students more with their assignments. And from that day, I began my side studying of education and teaching methodology for not knowing an “easy” answer to the question. In such, the quest has been a great education experience for myself and for those I share my learnings with.
Ok, I woul like to offer E-learning after the face-to-face for two reasons. To offer participants an opportunity for exchanging experiences related to the application of the learned in their own working situation. For myself to create an opportunity to address some issues which emerged from the face-to face training.
Hi – I’m an Instructional Designer working at a university – and these students are busy! They have so much coming at them that’s engaging (text messages, IMs, commercials, social networks, email, posters, fliers, etc…), education often seems dull compared to the rest of the world. Let’s face it, instructors don’t have the advertising industry behind them! There’s no reason learning can’t be fun – it’s just a matter of finding the right motivation for the audience and applying that to the content and knowledge-building activities.

Willem,
Congratulations on the opportunity to provide face-to-face training. You suggest blending learning to supplement the face-to-face training. However, you may wish to add distance e-learning in addition to or for after the face-to-face training. I am not sure how many learners would log in to a e-learning course unless they had a reason. What reason would you provide?
